Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly Member Du Sehun Holds Forum on Ordinance for Protection and Promotion of Youth Labor Rights

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Doosehun Du, a member of the Agriculture and Industry Economy Committee of the Jeonbuk Provincial Council (Wanju 2, Democratic Party), held a forum on the 24th to enact the "Jeollabuk-do Youth Labor Rights Protection and Promotion Ordinance" and gathered opinions from related experts.

This forum was organized to seek institutional support measures to prevent and protect youth workers, who often face poor working conditions and unfair labor relations due to their lack of work experience or related knowledge.

Du Sehun, who gave the presentation, said, "Support for working youth who engage in economic activities in the industrial field through internships or non-regular part-time jobs slightly earlier than their peers is institutionally insufficient," and requested, "Please gather wisdom for the enactment of a specific and practical ordinance."

The forum was attended by discussants including Lee Junsang, Head of Organization at the Jeonbuk Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, Chae Min, Executive Director of the Jeonbuk Youth Labor Rights Network, Kim Kwang-su, Team Leader of the Labor-Management Cooperation Team at the Jeonbuk Provincial Government's Corporate Support Division, and other related officials, who engaged in heated discussions.

In particular, Lee Junsang emphasized the need to explore implementation plans for out-of-school youth and organic cooperation with civil society, while Chae Min suggested that the ordinance should include provisions to guarantee the rights of youth workers entering workplaces with fewer than five employees and platform labor, as well as support for youth workers who fall within the exception zones of the Labor Standards Act.

Du Sehun stated, "It is time to seek a social role for working youth who are in institutional blind spots," and added, "I will do my best to actively reflect the key issues raised at the forum to establish systematic and practical institutional grounds."
