Resolving Causes of Damage and Preventing Recurrence of Similar Harm
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters confirmed a restoration plan worth 105 billion KRW on the 24th to recover from the damage caused by Typhoon Omais, the 12th typhoon of the season.
By region, 89.4 billion KRW will be allocated to Gyeongbuk, 5.2 billion KRW to Chungnam, 4.5 billion KRW to Gyeongnam, and 5.9 billion KRW to Ulsan and others (by facility). Additionally, 66.2 billion KRW will be invested in rivers, 7.7 billion KRW in erosion control projects, and 7.6 billion KRW in small rivers, totaling 23.5 billion KRW for small-scale facilities.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters plans to focus on permanent restoration to eliminate the causes of damage and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
In mountainous valley areas affected by landslides, erosion control facilities will be constructed, including the installation of erosion control dams to block the outflow of soil and rocks. Furthermore, in areas where narrow rivers caused significant flooding damage, the river width will be expanded and narrow bridges will be widened to facilitate smooth water flow.
Meanwhile, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, in consultation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and related ministries, has preemptively provided 5 billion KRW in national funds to local governments on the 15th, before the restoration plan was finalized, to ensure that disaster relief funds for private facilities such as houses and crops can be promptly paid to affected residents.
Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, "The government has established a restoration plan worth 105 billion KRW to assist residents and regions affected by typhoon damage," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that affected residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible through swift damage recovery."
