BTS 'Butter' Certified 'Double Platinum' by RIAA in the US... Second After 'Dynamite'

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The group BTS received a 'Double Platinum' certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their digital single 'Butter,' released last May.

On the 24th, RIAA announced on its website that 'Butter' officially received the 'Double Platinum' certification as of the 15th, awarded to songs that have sold over 2 million units.

RIAA awards certifications based on digital single and album sales: Gold (over 500,000), Platinum (over 1 million), Multi-Platinum (over 2 million), and Diamond (over 10 million). For digital singles, digital downloads, audio, and video streaming are counted. This is BTS's second time receiving the 'Double Platinum' certification, following their digital single 'Dynamite,' released last August. Notably, 'Butter' achieved the 'Double Platinum' certification within just four months of its release, setting a record for the shortest certification period for the group.

BTS first received a Platinum certification from RIAA in November 2018 in the digital single category for 'MIC Drop' (released September 2017). They then received Platinum certification in June 2019 for 'Boy With Luv feat. Halsey' (released April 2019). In January 2020, they earned Platinum certifications for the album LOVE YOURSELF 結 'Answer' (released August 2018) and its title track 'IDOL' in the album and digital single categories, respectively. Additionally, they received Platinum certification for 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7' (released February 2020) in November 2020, and Double Platinum certification for 'Dynamite' last March.

BTS holds the record for the most RIAA 'Platinum' or higher certifications among Korean artists, with a total of two albums and five songs certified.
