'Recording the Hearts of 1,500 Seoul Citizens' Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's Art Project at the Emotion Library

'Recording the Hearts of 1,500 Seoul Citizens' Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's Art Project at the Emotion Library

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture announced on the 24th that it will continue running the non-face-to-face art project "Mailbox: Archaeology of Emotions," which gathers and records the feelings of 1,500 people, as well as the online talk program "Dialogue of Emotions (감)," at the "Emotion Library," a space operated to explore citizens' emotions, until the end of the year.

The "Emotion Library" is a place where visitors can directly record their weary emotions caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and reflect on their inner selves that have been unconsciously overlooked in daily life. Visitors read sentences about emotions placed on the shelves and can transcribe or record their feelings on emotion cards by hand. The records left behind are exhibited in the Emotion Library, forming a bookshelf filled with the emotions of individual citizens, and the accumulated sentences are reborn as a book.

The art project "Mailbox: Archaeology of Emotions," involving 1,500 citizens, is conducted in a non-face-to-face manner due to social distancing measures. Participants express their hidden inner emotions through "collage art," which involves cutting and pasting newspapers, printed materials, and photos, and "writing," together with artist Yeom Ji-hee.

Participants can receive a collage art kit by delivery, which includes a collage notebook, images, emotion word cards, scissors, glue, and more. The creations made by each participant will be collected again, re-edited, and published as the "2021 Encyclopedia of Emotions (tentative title)." Citizens who wish to participate can apply on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 27th.

The online talk program "Dialogue of Emotions (감)," held under the theme "How is Your Weather?," discusses the interaction between others' emotions and spatial experiences through the interactive installation artwork "How is Your Weather?" by the architectural studio BARE. Additionally, an "art workshop" will be conducted both online and offline, allowing participants to express and visualize their inner emotions three-dimensionally through various creative activities such as textiles, sound, crafts, kinetic art, and bookbinding.

Applications for program participation and visits to the space can be made through the Naver reservation page. More detailed information is available on the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture website or the official Instagram of the "Emotion Library."
