Netizens Divided with Strong Opinions 'Tense'
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A story has emerged about a large quantity of bottled water ordered via delivery being left at the door, nearly causing someone to be trapped inside. Among netizens, opinions are sharply divided between those who say ordering a large amount of bottled water at once is disrespectful to delivery workers and those who argue there is no problem with it.
On the 22nd, an online community called 'Today’s Humor' posted an article titled 'Controversy over a college student being trapped after ordering bottled water delivery.' This was a shared post originally uploaded on the college student-only anonymous community 'Everytime' on the 15th.
The author, Mr. A, said, "I usually order 48 bottles of water whenever I run out, but today the hallway was suddenly filled with four rows of bottles lined up in a column," adding, "I tried pushing with my foot, but it got stuck outside and couldn’t be pushed any further."
He continued, "After struggling for a while and trying to call a friend via KakaoTalk, a passerby helped me," and warned, "Be careful when ordering bottled water."
Some netizens criticized the author, saying, "Ordering 48 bottles at once shows selfishness without considering others’ difficulties," "Try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes just once," "Because of people like that, it’s right to limit the quantity of bottled water deliveries," and "When I briefly worked as a delivery person, it was so hard because of the water that I still don’t order more than two bundles."
On the other hand, other netizens responded, "The problem lies with the delivery company for not setting purchase limits," "The delivery worker might have had a hard time, but the author didn’t order to cause trouble," "Since the delivery volume is fixed anyway, isn’t it better to have it all delivered to one place?" and "It’s the consumer’s right."
Meanwhile, after the hardships of delivery workers caused by large bottled water orders became known, some delivery companies changed the maximum order quantity. They limited the number of bottled water orders to a total of 2 to 3 bundles (based on 6 bottles of 2L each).
