‘Life of Service and Practice’ Chairman Kim Chung-seok Receives Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Dongmyung University … Jeon Ho-hwan Awarded as First ‘Doing President’ Kim Choong-seok, Chairman of Angel Peace Arts Group (right), received the first honorary doctorate degree of 'Doing President' from Jeon Ho-hwan, President of Dongmyung University.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Kim Chung-seok, Chairman of Angel Peace Arts Group, received an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from Dongmyung University.

Dongmyung University announced on the 24th that it awarded the degree to Chairman Kim Chung-seok at the university headquarters on the 16th.

Chairman Kim is the group chairman operating several businesses including Ilbio and Hangil, and serves as the chairman of Angel Peace Arts Group, which practices social service and action.

Regarding the background of awarding the honorary doctorate, Dongmyung University explained, “He is an entrepreneur who, from his early 30s, experienced both successes and failures in various businesses and has consistently practiced noblesse oblige such as selfless service and sharing in a life of recovery and new challenges.”

This means he is a figure who has embodied the university’s promoted practice of action, ‘Do-ing’, through his actions.

President Jeon Ho-hwan said, “We have found the first true ‘Do-ing’ doctorate who has tirelessly pursued passionate challenges and service.”

Although Chairman Kim Chung-seok is the sixth honorary doctorate recipient at Dongmyung University, he is the first since President Jeon Ho-hwan, the ‘Do-ing President’, was appointed. Dongmyung University added the semi-title of the first honorary doctorate under the Do-ing President.

At the awarding ceremony, President Jeon expressed his expectation that “this will greatly contribute to the six innovation projects that Dongmyung University is focusing on.”

Chairman Kim said, “I was greatly attracted by the 3-No (No Grade - No Credit - No Teaching) Do-ing University’s vision of not passively waiting for the future but actively challenging and creating it,” adding, “As a ‘Dongmyung-in’, I will do my best to help Dongmyung University of Korea leap forward to become a global Dongmyung University through Do-ing.”

Chairman Kim, originally from Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, graduated from Hongik University’s Department of Business Administration and worked at Ilhwa before achieving great success in the titanium business in his early 30s.

He overcame the severe difficulties brought by the IMF crisis and has now become an entrepreneur with annual sales in the 200 billion KRW range.

Chairman Kim practices service and sharing by △donating 1 billion KRW to global polio eradication funds △establishing Angel Peace Arts Group and supporting 7 billion KRW for nurturing artistic talent △donating over 1 billion KRW to help underprivileged children through the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education △being a top high-level donor to Rotary International (member of the Arch Klumph Society), among others.

He says that a company is not a personal possession but a public instrument, and that money earned through business is not meant to be hoarded. Money properly spent for the local community is ‘real money.’

Believing that promoting Korean performing arts culture worldwide can enhance the brand value of Korea and Busan and increase tourist attraction, he runs Angel Peace Arts Group while advocating for a ‘Cultural Powerhouse, Korea.’

The arts group provides free specialized arts education to youth, teaching K-pop, musicals, dance, chorus, vocals, practical music, Taekwondo, and more, while also fostering artistic talent.

Chairman Kim completed courses such as the KNA program at Korea University Graduate School of Law, the International Executive Program at Dongmyung University Graduate School, the Busan Ilbo CEO Academy, and the International Newspaper Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Academy.
