Excellent Evaluation of Differentiated Policies in the Forestry Sector
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 23rd that it was selected as an excellent basic local government nationwide in the 2021 joint evaluation of local governments in the forestry sector organized by the Korea Forest Service, receiving a plaque and a prize money of 6 million won.
The joint government evaluation in the forestry sector was conducted focusing on the performance and achievements of eight indicators, including the establishment rate of landslide prevention response systems, targeting 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
The detailed evaluation indicators include the establishment rate of landslide prevention response systems, achievement rate of sustainable forest resource cultivation, performance rate of forest road facilities, achievement of forest fire prevention results, achievement rate of forest pest control results, excellent cases of wood utilization for revitalizing the timber industry, expansion of forest welfare support funds for marginalized groups, and performance of forest protection enforcement and restoration.
Jinju City received an excellent evaluation by implementing diverse and differentiated policies in the forestry sector, such as early designation of eight landslide-prone areas to establish an on-site crisis response system for proactive landslide prevention and response, selection of Jinyangho Wood Land public institution wooden architecture as the best, minimizing forest fire occurrences through active forest fire prevention and publicity activities, and creating forest welfare complexes such as natural recreation forests.
Mayor Cho Gyu-il of Jinju said, "This is the result of the combined efforts of citizens and public officials during the difficult times of COVID-19," and added, "We will complete the establishment of forest recreation facilities such as Wolasan Wood Land and natural recreation forests so that citizens can fully enjoy forest welfare services in their daily lives."
