Fire Agency Produces First 19 Qualified On-Site Commanders

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency announced on the 23rd that it has issued field commander qualification certificates to 19 individuals who completed the training course and passed the certification evaluation under the field commander qualification certification system implemented in April.

The field commander qualification certification system is a policy that the National Fire Agency has been focusing on since last year. It standardizes the qualification system and training courses for field commanders and objectively evaluates and certifies command capabilities so that they can be linked to personnel management.

After establishing related regulations and conducting pilot operations, this time, 11 intermediate field commanders at the rank of Fire Captain and 8 junior field commanders at the rank of Fire Lieutenant were produced. On the 23rd, the head of the National Fire Agency awarded certificates to five representatives at the agency.

A total of 34 candidates challenged this certification process, but 15 were eliminated during the four-stage training and evaluation process, resulting in a 55% pass rate.

The National Fire Agency plans to continue fostering competent field commander personnel through systematic training courses and strict certification procedures, ensuring that the field commander qualification gains recognized authority.

Heo Seok-gon, Director of Planning and Coordination, stated, “To promptly appoint qualified personnel to all 6,388 field commander positions nationwide and to operate refresher training without disruption, we will expand the ‘Command Capability Enhancement Centers,’ the core facilities for training qualified personnel, from three locations nationwide to nine.”
