[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Kyobo Life Insurance announced on the 23rd that it has built and started operating a 'Big Data Cloud System (Ocean)' for its employees.
The Big Data Cloud System provides data available for use on the cloud, allowing business departments to directly utilize and analyze it.
In February, Kyobo Life Insurance announced that it would migrate its big data system and critical workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable big data analysis and flexible infrastructure expansion. The newly built cloud system is part of a project conducted jointly with AWS.
Previously, to analyze data in the field, employees had to install dedicated programs on personal computers and access the company-wide data warehouse. With the introduction of the cloud system, field analysts can now access the cloud environment and immediately use analysis software and company data.
Additionally, an environment has been created to nurture field data analysts who understand the basics and mechanisms of data analysis while working in their departments. To systematically train field data analysts, Kyobo Life Insurance operates its own training program. The first cohort produced 49 graduates, and the second cohort is currently undergoing actual analysis training.
Kwon Chang-gi, Head of IT Support at Kyobo Life Insurance, said, "Employees can now access the cloud system, a digital-based new technology, from anywhere in the company to analyze data," adding, "We expect all employees to develop data utilization capabilities as field data analysts to meet the business demands of the digital economy and ultimately enhance service competitiveness."
