[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju City's housing supply rate is projected to increase from 107% in 2019 to at least 135% in 10 years.
In a situation where concerns about oversupply of housing are being raised, a forum will be held to discuss whether a large-scale residential land development project with 13,000 households on a 1,685,950㎡ (510,000 pyeong) site in the Sanjeong district is necessary.
The Gwangju Federation of Economic Organizations will hold a policy forum on the 27th in the large conference room on the 4th floor of the Gwangju City Council to explore the effects, issues, and alternatives regarding the public residential land development in the Sanjeong district.
The policy forum will be moderated by Park Jong-ryeol, Executive Director of the Gwangju Federation of Economic Organizations, and Professor Cho Jin-sang of Dongshin University’s Department of Urban Planning (Chairman of the Gwangju Federation of Economic Organizations Policy Committee) will present on the topic, "Concerns about Oversupply of Housing in Gwangju: Is the Development of the Sanjeong Public Housing District Really Necessary?"
In his presentation, Professor Cho stated, "The Sanjeong public housing district development project causes large-scale destruction of the greenbelt, significantly impacts the smooth progress of other housing projects, and contradicts the decentralization of Gwangju’s housing policy. It is inappropriate to pursue large-scale development projects in an era of population decline and regional extinction, and there are various issues such as the monopolization of large-scale development profits by the developers."
He continued, "The Sanjeong public housing district development project not only does not align with the major trends of Gwangju Metropolitan City's housing policy but also, considering the overall housing conditions in Gwangju, it is an unnecessary matter that requires reconsideration of the project’s promotion."
Following the keynote presentation, a discussion panel including Song Bong-hyuk, Head of LH Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters; Lee Sang-bae, Director of Urban Regeneration Bureau of Gwangju Metropolitan City; Yoon Hyun-seok, Chief Editor of Gwangju Ilbo; Yoon Yeon-sang, Chairman of the Sanjeong District Residents’ Countermeasure Committee; and Seo Jae-hyung, Chairman of the Architecture and Urban Committee of the Gwangju Federation of Economic Organizations (Architect) will participate to engage in a discussion.
