[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will operate the first Dongjak Youth Cafe, ‘THE Hangang,’ starting from the 23rd, where visitors can enjoy a cup of tea while overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Hangang River.
‘THE Hangang,’ the first Dongjak Youth Cafe (29-6 Noryangjin-ro 32-gil), was created by remodeling the old Gangnam Senior Center building, which had been abandoned for over 10 years, as part of the Bondong Urban Regeneration New Deal pilot project. It will serve as the starting point for establishing a cafe culture street in the Bondong area.
With the concept of offering the best view of the Hangang River in Seoul, ‘THE Hangang’ is located midway along the entrance path leading up to Yongyangbongjeojeong Natural Yard and boasts an optimal vantage point where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of both the Hangang River and Namsan Mountain.
The cafe spans from the basement to the second floor with 42 seats. The first floor houses the cafe and a Hangang viewing deck, while the second floor features the cafe and a photo zone. Additionally, a parking lot with 24 spaces is provided for the convenience of cafe visitors.
The cafe operates year-round from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. After a pilot operation period until the end of September, it will officially open in October.
During the pilot operation period, coffee and desserts will be sold at a 10% discount.
At ‘THE Hangang,’ visitors can enjoy signature menu items loved by both young people and seniors, such as the sweet and creamy ‘Einsp?nner,’ the visually stunning ‘Nodeulade,’ and the ‘Handmade Fruit Syrup’ made by the operator.
Furthermore, the district selected the optimal operator through a public contest targeting young prospective entrepreneurs, fitting for a youth cafe.
The operator of THE Hangang said, “An unexpected opportunity came to me as the operator of Dongjak Youth Cafe while I was dreaming of starting a cafe business,” adding, “I will work hard to make ‘THE Hangang’ a hot place.”
Jungwon Kim, Director of the Economic Promotion Division, said, “‘THE Hangang,’ which offers the best view of the Hangang River in Seoul, is not only a place for coffee and desserts but also a prime spot to enjoy the best sunsets and night views. The walking deck connecting the cafe to Yongyangbongjeojeong Natural Yard makes it an excellent place for families,” and added, “We hope many people visit so that it can lay the foundation for opening second and third branches.”
The district is also pushing forward with the completion of the four-story ‘Yongyangbongjeojeong Park Observatory Cafe,’ which will play a catalytic role in creating the Bondong cafe culture street, aiming for completion in December.
