Since April 2019 Groundbreaking, Over 2 Years and 7 Months Later... Weekend Peak Congestion Reduced by More Than 30 Minutes
The riverside road construction connecting Gyeongju IC to the terminal is 80% complete, with the road scheduled to open at the end of November.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The 'Gangbyeon-ro' road, directly connecting Gyeongju Interchange (IC) and the bus terminal, will open at the end of November. It has been 2 years and 7 months since construction began in April 2019.
Once Gangbyeon-ro opens, the travel time between Gyeongju IC and the terminal is expected to be reduced by up to 30 minutes during weekend peak hours.
According to Gyeongju City on the 22nd, the final construction is underway aiming for the opening at the end of November on the 2.24 km section of Gangbyeon-ro connecting 'Najunggyo' near Gyeongju IC and 'Cheomseong-ro' near the express and intercity bus terminal.
As the shortest road connecting Gyeongju IC and the express/intercity bus terminal, it is expected to help disperse traffic and alleviate inconveniences for public transportation users.
This section was originally scheduled to open in April next year, but with the current progress rate at 80%, completion has been advanced by about 5 months. The total project cost is 47 billion KRW, and this project connects to the previously opened 7.76 km section from Cheonbuk Intersection to Silla Elementary School.
Gyeongju City expects this to greatly contribute not only to improving transportation convenience for tourists but also to revitalizing the local economy.
Mayor Jun Nak-young stated, "The early opening of Gangbyeon-ro connecting Gyeongju IC and the terminal will alleviate inconveniences for citizens using highways and public transportation, and increase tourists visiting places like Hwangridan-gil and Daereungwon, thereby helping to revitalize the local economy. We will continue to expand the arterial road network to create a safe and convenient road environment."
