Ice Pack Recycling Recognized for Outstanding Environmental Improvement Project for Sanitation Workers, Selected as Best District Among 25 Autonomous Districts, Securing 33 Million KRW Budget from Seoul City
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) was selected as the best district in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘2021 Government Joint Evaluation,’ securing a budget of 33 million KRW.
The ‘2021 Government Joint Evaluation’ is an assessment conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the performance of national delegated tasks, national subsidy projects, and major national policies carried out throughout 2020 in 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
Based on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s evaluation of metropolitan local governments, Seoul City conducted a performance evaluation of its 25 autonomous districts, and Gangdong-gu achieved full marks in 41 out of 52 indicators.
In particular, in qualitative indicators, Gangdong-gu received full marks in 9 out of 10 indicators, recognizing its outstanding performance. Among these, the ice pack recycling project selected as an excellent case for reducing single-use products and the environmental improvement achievements for sanitation workers were found to be adopted or desired by local governments nationwide.
The district has continuously made efforts to achieve excellent results by conducting monthly performance checks on various indicators, focusing on achieving project goals, and regularly educating the persons in charge of each indicator.
These efforts bore fruit, resulting in high evaluations in areas closely related to residents’ lives and gender equality realization, such as the rate of self-sufficiency and employment/start-up among participants in self-support work, achievement rate of senior job goals, utilization rate of national and public daycare centers, achievement rate of greenhouse gas reduction efforts, appointment rate of female public officials in managerial positions of grade 5 or higher, and policy improvement rate of gender impact assessments.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “This is a meaningful result recognizing our district’s excellent administrative capabilities,” and added, “We will continue to do our best with all employees to create a happier Gangdong-gu together.”
