[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Rapper Noel (real name Jang Yongjun), son of People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, has been booked on charges of driving without a license and assaulting a police officer, raising questions about the Mercedes-Benz vehicle he was driving at the time of the incident.

On the 20th, YouTuber Lee Jin-ho, a former entertainment reporter, released a video titled "Mercedes-Benz Rampage Again. How Much Is Jang Je-won's Son's Wealth?"

In the video, Lee stated that according to the disclosure of lawmaker asset information, as of March 2021, Noel's assets amounted to 49 million won. He added, "With the COVID-19 situation, the number of events has sharply decreased, so it is questionable where the money comes from to drive only high-end Mercedes-Benz cars."

However, Lee also noted, "His father, lawmaker Jang Je-won, did not provide specific details, citing independent livelihood."

Lee continued, "Noel is unlicensed, so purchasing or leasing a vehicle is impossible. Without help from family or friends, it would be difficult for him to drive the Mercedes-Benz involved in this accident."

Earlier, on the 18th, Noel was arrested on the spot on charges including refusal to take a breathalyzer test, driving without a license, and obstruction of official duties under the Road Traffic Act.

According to the police, on the day of his arrest around 10:30 p.m., Noel was driving a Mercedes-Benz near the St. Mary's Hospital intersection in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, when he caused a minor collision. When police officers who arrived at the scene requested a breathalyzer test and identification, Noel refused and assaulted the officers, the investigation revealed.

The day after the incident, on the 19th, Noel posted an apology on his Instagram story. He said, "I have nothing to say. I will accept all the punishment I deserve and try to become a more mature member of society." He also apologized, saying, "I am truly sorry to all my fans and many people who were harmed because of me."
