Jeonbuk Imsil-gun Transforms Tourist Attractions Around Seomjingang Dam

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, is moving quickly to transform the areas around Seomjingang Dam and Okjeongho into tourist attractions.

On the 19th, Imsil-gun announced that it recently held a mid-term report meeting for the 'Study on Establishing an Eco-friendly Utilization Plan around Seomjingang Dam.'

This project is being promoted in accordance with the 'Special Act on Eco-friendly Conservation and Utilization of Dam Surrounding Areas,' enacted as a special law in June 2018.

The National Land Research Institute is conducting the study to systematically preserve and manage the natural environment such as water quality and ecosystems around the dam area, and to promote the economy of the dam surrounding region for balanced regional development.

At the mid-term report meeting, detailed projects were proposed to utilize the dam surrounding area in an eco-friendly way to drive future growth in Imsil-gun and revitalize the local economy, including an inland water academy, nature learning center & recreation forest, ecological exploration rest area, Okjeongho circular road construction, and a complex smart rest area.

Additionally, the utilization plans for the areas around Seomjingang Dam and Okjeongho, which were presented at the initial report meeting, were specified in detail.

Analysis of regional ripple effects produced various utilization plans for the dam surrounding area, aligned with recent tourism trends and economic effects.

In particular, this study focuses on transforming the waterfront space created by dam construction into a tourist attraction that people want to visit.

The county expects that linking with the ecotourism industry will create new jobs, revitalize the local economy, and inject new vitality into tourism around Seomjingang Dam.

Referring to and reviewing the proposed plans from this meeting, the county plans to compile a comprehensive report and hold a final report meeting in November.

County Governor Shim Min said, "Through the mid-term research report meeting, we will check the progress so far and reflect expert opinions to carry out the project thoroughly," adding, "We will ensure it contributes to job creation, the local economy, and drives future growth."
