[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A netizen expressed frustration after being denied access to a pet pension because their dog weighed over 5kg.
On the 18th, a post titled "Conscience-less Gyeongju pension, charged 90,000 won in just 10 minutes. Please help" was uploaded on an online community board. The author stated, "I am writing this post with courage to seek advice after experiencing a very unfair situation," and added, "I am still so angry that my hands are shaking as I type."
The author began, "On the 17th, to spend the Chuseok holiday meaningfully for the first time in five years, I booked a pet pension in Gyeongju." They explained, "The card payment for the deposit was not accepted, and only bank transfer was available. After making the transfer and texting the owner, I was told the reservation was not possible due to the dog's weight." They continued, "I requested a refund within 5 minutes, but due to the store's policy, I only received 40% of the amount back."
The author added, "Of course, I acknowledge my mistake. Most pet pensions have a dog weight limit of 8 to 10kg, so I naively thought a dog weighing 8kg would be acceptable. Although the website states 5kg, it was my fault for not checking in advance." They also noted, "The 159,000 won turned into only 75,600 won in just a few minutes," meaning 83,400 won was lost as a penalty.
The author appealed, "But anyone can make mistakes. I requested a refund within 5 minutes, yet this kind of handling is outrageous." They added, "The pension owner said it was store policy. I was so frustrated that I even looked up laws and regulations related to lodging businesses. As someone who also runs a business, I was shocked that the owner spoke to customers like that."
As of 9 a.m. on the 19th, the post had over 200,000 views and more than 3,700 recommendations. Netizens also shared various opinions through over 1,800 comments, reacting with statements such as "I wonder why they don't accept card payments," "Just reading this raises my blood pressure," and "Other people's reviews of this pension are also very bad."
