[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] As the COVID-19 pandemic prolongs, the number of bicycle users has increased, leading to the release of various bicycles and optional devices that enhance convenience.

According to the industry on the 18th, items aimed at improving safety and convenience are gaining popularity, especially among the growing number of bicycle commuters. In particular, sales of electric bicycles have surged. They allow comfortable travel without sweating, and with recent improvements in battery performance extending travel distances, more people are enjoying them not only for commuting but also for leisure.

Alton Sports recently launched high-performance electric bicycles ‘Thales HT500’ and ‘Kodiak 20FAT,’ which are versatile and practical.

The Thales HT500 is an electric mountain bike that uses a center drive system, commonly found in high-performance electric bicycles. Also known as a mid-drive system, this method mounts the motor at the pedal area, resulting in high battery energy efficiency. It also features a torque sensor that detects the load applied to the pedals, minimizing any discomfort caused by motor operation, enabling safe and comfortable riding.

The wheels are 27.5 inches, balancing cruising ability and agility. The front wheel is equipped with Suntour’s ‘XCM suspension fork’ to absorb shocks from the road surface. It also includes a lockout function that allows the suspension to be locked or unlocked depending on the terrain, making it suitable for both rough trails and paved roads.

The bike is equipped with a Shimano 9-speed transmission and hydraulic disc brakes for quick stopping power. The battery has a capacity of 36V, 11.6Ah, allowing for medium to long-distance rides.

The Kodiak 20FAT, with a design resembling a motorcycle, has attracted much attention in major bicycle communities where it is nicknamed ‘Jatobai.’ It features a full-suspension system with suspension not only on the front wheel but also under the saddle to enhance ride comfort. The tires are distinctive 20-inch wide tires. The saddle is a long bike-type seat designed for more comfortable riding. It is characterized by an improved headlight system.
