"Threatened Mistress with Intimate Video, 40s Woman Sentenced to Prison Saying 'I Will Reveal Your True Self to Your Husband'"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] A man in his 40s who threatened his mistress by saying he would distribute videos of their sexual acts has been sentenced to prison.

On the 18th, the Criminal Division 13 of Suwon District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Gyu-young) announced that Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of threatening his mistress by saying he would distribute videos of their sexual acts (violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes), was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.

Earlier, Mr. A met the victim, Ms. B, through a gathering in March of last year. They dated from April to August of the same year, during which Mr. A recorded and kept videos of their sexual acts on his mobile phone. However, on August 28 of last year, Mr. A was indicted for repeatedly sending threatening messages via messenger, including statements such as "I will reveal your true self to your husband" and "I have the video," after refusing to accept Ms. B's request to break up.

The court explained, "The crime in this case involved the defendant threatening the victim, who was in a mistress relationship, by using videos of their sexual acts, which is a serious offense." The court added, "However, we took into consideration the defendant's confession and remorse, the absence of prior sexual crime convictions, and the fact that the victim and defendant reached a settlement," as reasons for sentencing.
