Financial Services Commission Receives Reports from 6 Virtual Asset Operators... Upbit Selected as First Operator

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] Dunamu Inc.'s 'Upbit' has become the first official virtual asset exchange.

On the 17th, the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Financial Services Commission announced, "Currently, six virtual asset service providers have completed their registration submissions, and among them, the registration of Upbit has been approved." The Financial Intelligence Unit held the 1st Virtual Asset Service Provider Registration Review Committee meeting on the same day to conduct a review of Upbit's operations.

To enhance fairness, objectivity, and expertise in the registration review process for virtual asset service providers, the Financial Intelligence Unit formed the Virtual Asset Service Provider Registration Review Committee with nine external private experts, and based on the review results, decided to approve Upbit's registration.

Currently, the service providers who have submitted registrations to the Financial Services Commission include five virtual asset exchanges: Upbit, Bithumb, Korbit, Coinone, Flybit, and one wallet service provider, Korea Digital Asset.

A Financial Services Commission official stated, "Considering that there is only one week left until the registration period ends on the 24th, virtual asset service providers who have not yet submitted their registrations are urged to do so promptly."
