[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] As eco-friendly value consumption trends spread mainly among the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), the hotel industry is also actively conducting projects and packages linked to this trend. From replacing in-hotel amenities with reusable ones to participating in resource circulation projects, the methods vary.
According to the hotel industry on the 20th, Haevichi Hotel & Resort recently signed a business agreement with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, to establish an "eco-friendly resource circulation ecosystem." The hotel explained that through providing label-free bottled water in Haevichi rooms, introducing new separation, disposal, and collection procedures, they will participate in the "resource circulation project" and cooperate to create a synergy effect in spreading the value of sustainable clean Jeju.
Haevichi places eco-friendly label-free bottled water of Jeju Samdasoo in guest rooms and plans to encourage guests to participate in the separate disposal of used water bottles. Jeju Development Corporation will directly collect the transparent PET bottles gathered at Haevichi and cooperate to recycle them into high-quality recycled fibers. The eco-friendly products developed through this process will later be showcased at Haevichi as well.
It is estimated that about 240,000 bottles of water are used annually at Haevichi Hotel & Resort Jeju. If these containers are cleanly separated and disposed of, they can be transformed into eco-friendly recycled yarn to make about 5,700 bags. The hotel stated, "This collaboration will create synergy in establishing a resource circulation ecosystem that minimizes waste plastic that could have been discarded and transforms it into eco-friendly materials."
Kolon-affiliated resorts and hotels have carried out eco-friendly renewals so that customers can participate in "Zero Waste." A total of three hotels are participating in this renewal. Two hotels, Gyeongju Kolon Hotel and Seoul Hotel Cappuccino, have completely replaced all single-use amenities in guest rooms with large-capacity, reusable dispenser-type amenities from "Geneva Green."
These products use containers made from 100% recycled plastic materials, which reduces not only new plastic use but also existing plastic, making them circular design products. They can only be opened with a master key, allowing safe use without hygiene concerns. Busan Kolon Sea Cloud Hotel is also scheduled to complete installation by the end of this year. Along with this amenity renewal, Kolon Hotel installed the "H201 Vitamin Shower Filter," made entirely from food-grade components, in all guest rooms.
Glad Hotel will offer the "Green Staycation Season 2 Package," allowing guests to enjoy a "good staycation" using eco-friendly amenities, from October 27 to November 30. The package includes a one-night stay and one set of eco-friendly customized amenities consisting of a bamboo toothbrush and solid toothpaste from the eco-friendly cosmetics brand "TOUN28." TOUN28 is an eco-friendly cosmetics brand that uses plant-based natural and naturally derived ingredients instead of animal or animal-derived ingredients, including meat, fish, honey, eggs, and dairy products. It has received "The Vegan Society" certification for about 20 products after review by The Vegan Society.
The newly released "Glad Tumbler" will also be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The Glad Tumbler will later be available for purchase at the Glad Shop on Naver Smart Store. This package is part of a campaign to save the planet and does not allow parking. Instead of using private cars, guests are encouraged to walk, bike, or use public transportation to participate in the "Carbon Footprint Reduction Campaign," which reduces greenhouse gases generated in daily life.
