Refrain from Using Perfume and Cosmetics... Wearing Bright-Colored Clothes Is Effective
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station (Chief Song Seonghun) has urged grave visitors and hikers to exercise special caution due to concerns over an increase in bee sting accidents caused by grass cutting and grave visits during the upcoming Chuseok holiday period.
According to Gwangsan Fire Station on the 17th, the number of dispatches for beehive removal in the jurisdiction has reached a total of 951 cases as of this date, marking a 46.3% increase compared to last year.
It has been found that 33.9% of all bee sting accidents over the past three years are concentrated before and during Chuseok, highlighting the need for grave visitors to be especially careful.
During activities such as grass cutting or grave visits and hiking, it is advisable to refrain from using perfumes or cosmetics, and to wear hiking clothes in bright colors rather than dark colors like black, as this can further prevent bee sting accidents.
Additionally, if a wasp nest is discovered during a hike, it is best to lower your posture and slowly move to another location.
Choi Byungbok, Head of the 119 Disaster Response Division, said, “For safe hiking during the Chuseok holiday period, please be sure to follow prevention and safety rules,” and added, “We will do our best to protect citizens’ safety from bee sting accidents.”
