Jeju Coast Guard Urgently Transports 60s Resident Suspected of Brain Disease Symptoms

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] On the morning of the 17th, a patient with hyperglycemic ketoacidosis in an emergency situation in Chuja-myeon, Jeju City was transported using a 5000-ton patrol vessel to Seomang Port in Jindo, Jeollanam-do, amid a typhoon warning, and handed over to the coastal rescue boat of the Jindo Police Substation.

According to the Jeju Coast Guard on the 17th, Mr. A (male/60s/resident of Chuja) visited the Chuja Health Center in Chuja-myeon around 6:50 a.m. as facial paralysis symptoms, which began the previous evening, worsened. A report was received stating that hyperglycemic ketoacidosis (facial rigidity symptoms) and brain disease were suspected, and transfer to a large hospital was necessary.

Immediately after receiving the report, the Jeju Coast Guard dispatched a 5000-ton patrol vessel that was on duty amid the typhoon warning issued for all waters around Jeju Island. The vessel arrived around 8:37 a.m. in the waters in front of Mukri Port in Chuja-myeon, which was less affected by the typhoon.

They then launched a high-speed boat and entered Mukri Port around 8:58 a.m., took on the emergency patient Mr. A, one guardian, and one medical staff member, a total of three people, and boarded them onto the 5000-ton patrol vessel around 9:10 a.m., then proceeded at full speed to Seomang Port in Jindo County, Jeollanam-do.

The Coast Guard safely handed them over to the coastal rescue boat of the Jindo Police Substation waiting at Seomang Port, Jindo, Jeollanam-do around 11:17 a.m.

Meanwhile, this year, the Jeju Coast Guard has safely transported a total of 39 emergency patients, including 27 patients who occurred on Chuja Island, using patrol vessels and other means.
