[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye expressed the need to verify the doctoral dissertation of Kim Geon-hee, wife of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, during the National Assembly's government questioning session on the 16th.
In response to a question from Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Young-duk, who said, "The public is outraged because Kookmin University decided not to verify the dissertation citing the expiration of the verification period," Deputy Prime Minister Yoo replied, "It is necessary to review the preliminary investigation results and verify the dissertation." She added, "We plan to receive an action plan from Kookmin University."
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo stated, "The Ministry of Education abolished the verification expiration period in 2011. This was to establish research ethics among universities and researchers and to prevent research misconduct." She added, "The decision of Kookmin University's preliminary investigation committee is evaluated as not reflecting this purpose."
Deputy Prime Minister Yoo also said, "We plan to revise the system so that the purpose of establishing research ethics and preventing misconduct can be well realized in the field."
