Automatic Signal Control System for Non-Stop Intersection Passage During Disaster Site Dispatch
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, was selected for the 2022 ITS (Emergency Vehicle Priority Signal System Construction) national subsidy project on the 15th and will receive 60 million KRW in national funding.
The ITS project is an intelligent transportation system that automatically controls traffic signals at intersections to allow emergency vehicles (firefighting and high-priority vehicles) to pass through intersections without stopping when responding to disaster sites. The county plans to proceed with a total project budget of 100 million KRW by adding 40 million KRW of county funds.
The project target area is the section from Hapcheon-eup to the entrance of National Route 33, from the back gate of the county office at Gyodong Intersection to the signal light section at Gangyanggyo Intersection.
This section is a major area for passing to the eastern region of Hapcheon or heading to the southern and northern parts. Due to heavy vehicle traffic and the installation of a central divider, rapid dispatch was not possible. However, once ITS is established, dispatch time is expected to be drastically reduced, enabling prompt rescue activities and wildfire suppression to secure the golden time.
County Governor Moon Jun-hee said, “I am pleased to provide quick traffic services to residents living in the eastern region of our county, and we will continue to do our best to provide the best administrative services to our citizens.”
