[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the afternoon of the 15th that the National Animal Quarantine Service detected the H5N3 type AI antigen in wild bird droppings collected from Mihocheon in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, after conducting an interim inspection. It is expected to take about 1 to 2 days to confirm whether it is highly pathogenic.

The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs have deployed an initial response team from the quarantine headquarters to the site where the wild bird droppings were collected to control access. The area within a 10 km radius of Mihocheon in Jincheon has been designated as a 'wild waterfowl surveillance area.' Surveillance and inspections are being conducted targeting poultry farms within this area.

According to the AI Emergency Action Guidelines (SOP), disinfection and other preventive measures are being carried out targeting migratory bird habitats and nearby poultry farms.

An official from the quarantine authorities stated, "It is important to prepare wild bird exclusion nets and inspect quarantine facilities at poultry farms before the arrival of migratory birds next month."
