[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] On the 15th (local time), the United States stated that North Korea's ballistic missile test launch does not pose an immediate threat to the United States or its allies.
The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) issued a statement saying, "We are aware of the missile launch and are closely consulting with our allies and partners." It added, "We assess that this event does not pose an immediate threat to Americans, U.S. territory, or our allies," but also pointed out that "this missile launch highlights the destabilizing impact of North Korea's illicit weapons programs in the region." It emphasized, "The United States' commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains steadfast."
According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea from the Yangdok area in South Pyongan Province between 12:34 and 12:39 p.m. on the same day.
North Korea's ballistic missile tests are prohibited by United Nations Security Council resolutions. North Korea also conducted a ballistic missile test launch at the end of March, just two months after U.S. President Joe Biden took office.
