CIS Signs Four-Party MOU to Secure Production Facilities for All-Solid-State Battery Solid Electrolytes

CI Solid, TSI, and Hanguk Jingong Sign MOU to Establish Solid Electrolyte Production Line
Collaboration with TSI, Specialist in Powder Conveying and Mixing, and Hanguk Jingong, Expert in Vacuum Heat Treatment Equipment

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] CIS has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the establishment of a solid electrolyte production line, centered on its subsidiary CISolid.

CIS announced on the 15th that CISolid, a solid electrolyte manufacturer, signed an MOU with TSI, a specialist in powder transfer and mixing, and Korea Vacuum, a vacuum heat treatment equipment specialist, for the development and production of a solid electrolyte production line for all-solid-state batteries. CISolid was established in April through a 100% equity investment by CIS to mass-produce solid electrolytes.

CIS has formed a strategic partnership with TSI, which has strengths in powder mixing and transfer technologies, to create a mass production system based on dry processes. Through the MOU, they also agreed to collaborate on developing equipment for the dry electrode manufacturing process, which has recently become a key issue.

Korea Vacuum is a specialized company in continuous drying lines for lithium secondary battery electrodes and possesses various technologies related to vacuum deposition and DLC vacuum surface treatment. Based on its production experience with continuous drying lines, it has the capability to design compact equipment that minimizes the consumption of inert gases. Following the MOU signing, Korea Vacuum will develop and supply continuous powder atmosphere control heat treatment equipment.

CIS plans to establish an initial solid electrolyte production line through strategic alliances among the four companies. They will strengthen the competitiveness of CISolid's production system through continuous R&D collaboration and joint research and development on production line improvements.

Kim Suha, CEO of CIS, said, "As interest in all-solid-state battery technology and products increases, we have established CISolid, a specialized solid electrolyte manufacturer, to prepare for mass production. We will prepare to build and produce a solid electrolyte manufacturing line to ensure smooth supply of materials in line with the production line supply schedule currently under discussion."

CIS has also filed numerous related patents through its proprietary technology for mass production of solid electrolytes. They are building a continuous production system. Until now, dry-type solid electrolyte production has not escaped batch-type manufacturing processes, but CIS has developed a system capable of continuous production through innovation in manufacturing equipment and processes. This enables simplification of the manufacturing process and reduction of production costs, ensuring quality stability.
