Bunker of Light, Following Jeju, Seoul Project Named 'Theater of Light' Confirmed

Bunker of Light, Following Jeju, Seoul Project Named 'Theater of Light' Confirmed Walkerhill show performance scene.

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The immersive media art exhibition hall, Bunker of Light, announced on the 14th that it has finalized the project name of the second installment of the "Light Series," following Jeju, as "Light Theater" in Seoul.

Light Theater is a name that reflects the characteristics of the "Light Series," where all visitors participating in the exhibition can become the protagonists of the artwork through colorful visuals and grand sound that fill the entire space. It also embodies the symbolic meaning of the Walkerhill Theater, which has played a major role in the arts for 50 years by presenting Korea's first theater-style show, the "Walkerhill Show."

Utilizing the stage space of the Walkerhill Theater, where large-scale shows were held, Light Theater features an exhibition hall with a height of up to 20 meters, about four times higher than Jeju's Bunker of Light, promising a more overwhelming scale of exhibition. In particular, the space preserves key facilities such as the stage and lighting of Walkerhill Theater, while adding new immersive media art technologies to offer a unique exhibition experience.

Kim Hyunjung, Director of the Culture Business Division at Timonet, said, "Light Theater is a project that combines the artistic heritage of Walkerhill Theater with the identity of immersive media art introduced for the first time in Korea," adding, "You will be able to experience a distinctive exhibition unique to Light Theater, different from the Bunker of Light, which has become a landmark of Jeju."

The "Light Series" is an immersive media art project with a cultural regeneration concept that installs over 100 projectors and dozens of speakers in old locations, allowing visitors to experience masterpieces by great artists visually, auditorily, and synesthetically. In 2018, Timonet introduced the "Light Series" to Korea for the first time by transforming a secret bunker in Seongsan, Jeju?an old national agency communication facility hidden for a long time?into a media art exhibition hall called Bunker of Light. Within two years of its opening, Bunker of Light became a landmark of Jeju, attracting over one million visitors.

Light Theater, currently being prepared on the site of Walkerhill Theater at Walkerhill Hotel & Resort in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, is scheduled to officially open early next year to welcome audiences.
