[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A Jindo dog suspected of being abused was found in Jinan, Jeonbuk, sparking outrage among netizens. At the time of discovery, the Jindo dog’s mouth was tightly bound with a thick industrial rubber band.

On the 13th, an online community 'Bobaedream' posted an article titled "People living in Jeonbuk, please take a look. Looking for witnesses to a devil."

The author, Mr. A, opened by saying, "Some devil tied the mouth of a white dog very tightly with a thick industrial rubber band and abandoned it." According to Mr. A, the white dog was found near Sangjeon-myeon, Jinan-gun, Jeonbuk.

He continued, "The dog was so thin and its mouth was necrotic from being tied for so long," adding, "When the rubber band was removed, the dog’s mouth was swollen as if it had been stung by countless bees."

He appealed, "I want to publicize this to find the devil who tortured and abandoned the dog to suffer alone for such a long time. The dog endured alone for a long time on a dark roadside under a bridge. Please help so that the culprit can be caught."

In the photos Mr. A shared, the white dog’s mouth was tightly bound with a black rubber band. Although rescuers removed the rubber band, the dog’s mouth was severely swollen to the point that its original shape was unrecognizable. The inside of the mouth was soaked with blood, and blood was smeared around the mouth as well.

The animal welfare organization 'Beagle Rescue Network,' which rescued the dog, said, "The dog’s mouth was tightly bound with an industrial rubber band (a thick commercial rubber band), causing necrosis inside the mouth, and it was diagnosed that four weeks of hospitalization and treatment are necessary." They added, "The dog was so thin that its pelvic bones were visible, and it was very gentle, liking human touch."

They continued, "The dog had not even had a sip of water for a long time, as it eagerly drank the water given by the informant at the time of rescue. The water the dog drank quickly turned red due to the wounds inside its mouth," and "The dog’s front paws were covered in blood, presumably from repeatedly rubbing its mouth with its paws to remove the rubber band tied around its snout."

Furthermore, they said, "It is unimaginable how much pain the dog, abandoned with its mouth tied on a roadside, must have endured. If the dog had not been found on the dark roadside under the bridge, one life might have been lost to the sound of passing cars, and the criminal who committed animal abuse and abandonment might have escaped proper punishment," urging strict punishment for the perpetrator.

After the dog’s story became known, netizens responded with comments such as, "This is so heartbreaking. How scared and painful it must have been all this time. Please catch and punish the culprit," "Please properly punish animal abusers. People who abuse animals can do the same to humans," "Why are there so many devils in this world?" and "This is so cruel. The culprit must be found quickly and held accountable."

Meanwhile, under the Animal Protection Act, "Acts of cruelty that cause an animal to die in a cruel manner" can be punished by imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.
