TIPA Holds Briefing Session for Investment-Type R&D Operating Companies Recruitment

TIPA Holds Briefing Session for Investment-Type R&D Operating Companies Recruitment

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] The Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs (TIPA) will hold an information session on the 13th at the TIPS Town Hall in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, to recruit operators participating in the investment-type research and development (R&D) dedicated track (Scale-up TIPS).

The investment-type R&D dedicated track, 'Scale-up TIPS,' is a program that utilizes private specialized capabilities such as venture capital (VC) and R&D service companies to discover promising technology-intensive small and medium-sized ventures, and supports scale-up growth through government matching investments linked with private investments and R&D support.

Scale-up refers to startups that are growing rapidly among newly established companies. The investment-type R&D dedicated track support project is designed to break away from the existing grant-oriented R&D by focusing investment on promising small and medium-sized ventures in the hardware and manufacturing sectors at the scale-up stage, supporting technology development.

The information session will proceed with explanations from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and TIPA officials on policy directions, restructuring details, and expansion plans for investment-type R&D, followed by detailed guidance on recruiting operators and a Q&A session. All content and questions and answers from the session will be available for replay on TIPA's official YouTube channel.

Operators will be announced, applied for, and accepted until the 1st of next month. About five operators, composed of private companies with technological capabilities such as R&D service companies and venture capital with investment insight, will be preferentially selected in October, and the project will be actively promoted from the fourth quarter.

For more detailed information regarding the information session, inquiries can be made to the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs or information can be obtained from the Technology Development Project Integrated Management System.

Lee Jae-hong, President of TIPA, said, "We hope many operators will participate in the program so that an investment-based technology innovation ecosystem can be activated," adding, "TIPA will make further efforts to expand innovative and challenging investments in promising technology-intensive small and medium-sized ventures."
