[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] U.S. electric vehicle company Tesla Motors has announced new hiring for its energy trading division.

Tesla stated on its LinkedIn page that it is seeking personnel for its energy trading team to support its battery and renewable power business.

Julian Rami, who identified himself as a senior engineer in the optimization software division at Tesla, revealed in the LinkedIn announcement that they are creating a new team focused on energy trading and market operations.

Tesla plans to use an automated trading platform called "Autobidder" during the power trading process. Autobidder is described as a system installed in homes that can bid in multiple energy wholesale markets. The newly hired personnel will participate in and trade battery, solar, and wind power operations in real time using Autobidder, and experience in wholesale power markets is required.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated at the company's earnings announcement in April that Tesla will grow not just as a simple electric vehicle manufacturer but as a company providing long-term solutions for a sustainable future energy. Accordingly, Tesla has been actively expanding its energy trading business recently.

On the 17th of last month, Tesla submitted an application to register as a Retail Electric Provider (REP) in Texas through its subsidiary Tesla Energy Ventures. The plan is to purchase electricity from companies and sell it in the retail market.

Texas experienced a severe power shortage due to an extreme cold wave in February. At that time, a large-scale blackout occurred, and five power trading companies in Texas were removed from the market. Since then, 13 companies including Tesla have submitted applications to operate power brokerage businesses. Texas plans to decide on Tesla's REP license by November 15.

Tesla also submitted an application to Texas for the construction of a Megapack battery storage facility to supply power in Houston.
