A Total of 9 Ships Deployed Including Those Headed to the Americas, Europe, and Australia
The 5000 TEU-class container ship 'HMM Platinum' is loading cargo from domestic export companies at Busan New Port HPNT.
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] HMM announced on the 7th that it has deployed one temporary vessel bound for the Americas to support the smooth export of domestic companies.
The 42nd temporary vessel, the 5000TEU container ship HMM Platinum, which departed from Busan New Port HPNT (HMM Busan New Port Terminal), loaded cargo from domestic export companies and left Busan on the 7th. It is scheduled to arrive in Tacoma, USA on the 18th of this month and then reach Los Angeles (LA), USA on the 22nd.
The multipurpose vessel (MPV) HMM Ulsan, scheduled to depart from Busan on the 8th, is the 43rd temporary vessel and will be the first temporary vessel deployed on the Australia route. It is expected to arrive in Melbourne and Sydney on the 22nd and 28th of this month, respectively.
On the 3rd, the 5000TEU container ship HMM Paramount departed from Gwangyang Port to LA as the first temporary vessel on that route. Starting with the Paramount, HMM plans to deploy a total of nine temporary vessels centered on Busan this month, which is the highest monthly number of temporary vessels deployed to date.
HMM plans to actively deploy temporary vessels on routes with insufficient capacity such as the Americas, Europe, Russia, Australia, and Vietnam to continuously support the transportation of cargo for domestic import and export companies. In particular, through strengthened cooperation among the Small and Medium Business Corporation, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), and Korea International Trade Association, HMM will do its best to support capacity for small and medium shippers and resolve logistics difficulties.
Since August last year, HMM has continuously deployed temporary vessels 25 times on the US West Coast, 7 times on the US East Coast (Busan~Savannah, Busan~New York), 5 times to Russia, 4 times to Europe, once to Vietnam, and once to Australia. If all nine vessels are deployed this month, the total number of voyages will increase to 49.
An HMM official stated, “We will do our best to deploy additional temporary vessels to ensure the smooth loading of export cargo from small and medium enterprises,” adding, “As a leading national shipping company, we will take responsibility and strive to transport safely.”
