[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 7th that it has appointed actress Park So-dam as the honorary ambassador for Korean performance tourism to promote performance tourism, an experiential content that allows people to newly experience Korea in the 'post-COVID-19' era, to the world.

Park So-dam, who has showcased various charms across movies and dramas, gained global recognition through the 2019 film "Parasite." Since 2016, she has been steadily active on theater stages including Daehangno, and it is expected that her appointment as an ambassador will contribute to promoting the charm of Korean performances and Daehangno, the mecca of performances, to the world.

Ambassador Park So-dam appears in three promotional videos released on the 'Welcome Daehangno' YouTube channel on the same day, sharing various stories about Korean performance tourism, Daehangno, and the 2021 Welcome Daehangno festival with the world. She is also scheduled to serve as the host of the opening ceremony for the 2021 Welcome Daehangno festival, which will begin on the 27th, both online and offline.

The 2021 Welcome Daehangno festival marks its 5th year this year and will be held online and offline from the 27th until October 29th. The event programs include the Welcome Show (opening ceremony) signaling the start of the festival and 'Welcome K-Stage,' which broadcasts one excellent performance tourism content each month online. Offline, the 'Welcome Theater' will present a total of nine performances in a relay format at the Seokyeong University Performing Arts Center Halls 1 and 2. Notably, among the online broadcast programs, Welcome K-Stage provides subtitles in four languages (English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese), while other programs offer English subtitles to enhance convenience for overseas viewers. Detailed information can be found on the Welcome Daehangno website.

Park Kyung-sook, head of the Hallyu Tourism Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, stated, “Having Hallyu star Park So-dam, who is active on the performance stage, as an ambassador will greatly help attract global Hallyu fans’ interest to performance tourism. Through projects like Welcome Daehangno, we will promote Daehangno as the center of performance tourism and continue to establish a foundation and promotional campaigns to expand overseas visitors once inbound tourism resumes.”
