[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to raise the living wage for next year by 5.1% to an hourly rate of 11,030 won.
The city announced on the 3rd that the Living Wage Committee, which includes labor, management, civil society, and government representatives, held a total of three discussions and ensured that the decision aligns with the 2020 agreement goal of "achieving 100% of the minimum cost of living over the next 10 years."
Although the worsening city financial conditions were considered a problem, the city applied the same increase rate as the minimum wage increase for next year as a measure of consideration for low-wage workers.
The number of people subject to the living wage, which will be announced early this month, has increased by 25 to a total of 1,169.
The targets include fixed-term workers employed by the city, workers employed by public enterprises, investment, and foundation institutions under the city, and workers employed by entrusted institutions commissioned with city affairs, with a total cost expected to be 3.43 billion won.
