KT Collaborates with Russian Far East Development Corporation to Promote Healthcare and IDC Business

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 2nd that it participated as an official partner in the 6th Eastern Economic Forum and presented a new northern region entry strategy, including the construction of a health checkup center (healthcare) and an Internet Data Center (IDC) in Vladivostok, Russia.

The Eastern Economic Forum is an economic forum led by the Russian government aimed at economic development cooperation in the Far East region. During the forum, KT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Far East Development Corporation, a federal Russian agency responsible for investment attraction and development in the Far East region, to promote the construction of health checkup center and IDC infrastructure projects.

Through this MOU, the two organizations plan to cooperate on ▲obtaining permits ▲tax benefits ▲regulatory relaxation, thereby supporting stable investment in the entry projects.

First, KT will build and operate a health checkup center that consolidates its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities. It is expected that the new healthcare infrastructure will significantly improve the medical environment in Russia's Far East region. This health checkup center project will be carried out in cooperation with Korean medical-related institutions such as KT, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, and Pusan National University Hospital.

During the forum, KT also signed an MOU with Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, focusing on cooperation in the health checkup center construction project. Sberbank evaluated that by integrating KT's advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing, it will be able to provide high-quality medical services, contributing to the health improvement of the Russian people.

Additionally, KT is promoting a project to build IDC infrastructure in Vladivostok to provide services to Russia, Korean companies operating in Russia, and global companies. KT is expected to contribute to regional development by resolving the imbalance of IDC and communication infrastructure concentrated in Moscow and supporting the stable operations of companies that have entered the Far East region, thereby attracting advanced IT companies. Going forward, KT plans to expand its hub-type business aimed at entering western Russia and neighboring countries through cooperation with prominent local companies.

Shin Sujeong, head of KT's Enterprise Division, said, “By building IDC infrastructure and health checkup centers, we will support the economic development of Russia's Far East region and dramatically improve the quality of life for its citizens,” adding, “We will promote projects that can spread KT's DX capabilities worldwide, using Vladivostok as a base.”
