"Moon Jae-in Administration, Which Has Fought Against the Military Regime 'Monster,' Has It Somehow Become the 'Monster' Itself?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 29th, Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, appealed regarding the Democratic Party's plan to forcibly pass the Media Arbitration Act, saying, "The Moon Jae-in administration, which fought against the 'monster' military regime that used power to punish critical media, should reflect on whether it has become a 'monster' itself."
On the same day, through social media (SNS), Rep. Kim stated, "The Moon Jae-in government is the only one in the world that legally prescribes punitive measures on the assumption that journalists deliberately engage in false and fabricated reporting," adding, "If the legislative intent is to provide relief from damage caused by partisan media, it can be achieved by adjusting civil damages for victims realistically, rather than wiping out 'annoying media' like spraying herbicide."
She continued, "Ignoring rational and healthy discussions, the Democratic Party turns its back on the people and rushes forward with this bad law," questioning, "Why are they in such a hurry?"
Rep. Kim pointed out, "The Media Arbitration Act, which Floor Leader Yoon Ho-jung defended, claiming that the former president was helplessly victimized by media tyranny immediately after leaving office, focuses on saving President Moon Jae-in, who will become a 'former public official' next year, even at the expense of the media."
She compared the clause "presumed intentional" in the Media Arbitration Act with the clause in the National Security Act stating "knowing that it endangers the free democratic basic order," criticizing, "What is the difference between the military regime's 'Because I know, you are a spy' and the Moon Jae-in government's 'Because I know, you are fake news'?"
Rep. Kim expressed concern, saying, "Our hard-earned democracy," and warned, "If even the light of the media, like a lamp in a dark alley, is extinguished, the Republic of Korea will enter darkness."
