[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Kim Seok-jun, Superintendent of Education in Busan, warmly welcomed the Busan athletes who performed well at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Diving athlete Woo Ha-ram and modern pentathlon athlete Kim Se-hee, both graduates of Busan Sports High School, were invited and visited the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education at 3 p.m. on the 25th.
Athlete Woo Ha-ram surprised many by finishing 4th in the men's 3m springboard diving final, marking the highest ranking ever in Korean diving history.
Athlete Kim Se-hee achieved the best Korean result by placing 11th in the women's individual modern pentathlon event. Although these athletes did not win medals, their fighting spirit broke down barriers that Korea had not overcome before, bringing joy and hope to the people exhausted by COVID-19.
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun met with the athletes and, on behalf of the Busan education family, wanted to congratulate them for demonstrating the strength of Busan education through their excellent performances at the Tokyo Olympics.
On that day, the two athletes delivered messages of hope to Busan students at the Metropolitan Office of Education.
Athlete Woo Ha-ram said, “If you have higher dreams and hopes, use your time wisely, and keep making steady efforts, you will experience your own growth,” adding, “Let’s overcome COVID-19 well and take a step forward toward our dreams and goals.”
Athlete Kim Se-hee conveyed a message to “the juniors of Busan,” saying, “The past moments will never come back, so if you cherish every moment, you can achieve your dreams.”
Superintendent Kim Seok-jun said, “On behalf of the education family, I send congratulatory applause to the two Busan-born athletes who performed well at the Tokyo Olympics,” and added, “I hope our students also find what they love and put all their effort into it with dreams and hopes like these athletes.”
Athlete Woo Ha-ram (Korea Sports Promotion Foundation), while attending Busan Sports High School (graduated in 2017), participated in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, winning one silver and three bronze medals, and competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, achieving the historic first finals qualification.
He also won two silver and two bronze medals at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.
In particular, at this Tokyo Olympics, he secured 4th place in the 3m springboard event, the best result in Korean history, significantly raising the level of Korean diving, which had been a barren field, and contributed to promoting it worldwide.
Athlete Kim Se-hee (BNK Savings Bank), after graduating from Busan Sports High School (2014), won a silver medal in the women's individual modern pentathlon at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, earned Korea’s first gold medal in the mixed relay at the 2021 World Championships, and placed 11th in the individual event at this Tokyo Olympics.
She left a mark in Korean women's modern pentathlon history by ranking 2nd in the combined scores of fencing, swimming, and equestrian events.
