[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] On the 24th, Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, raised concerns about Pusan National University’s announcement to cancel the admission of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk’s daughter to the medical school, stating, "The intention behind making such an interim announcement is suspicious."

On the same day, Jeong posted on his Facebook under the title "Comforting Cho Kuk," saying, "(Pusan National University’s decision to cancel the admission) is a provisional disposition that can ultimately be reversed, so the final announcement could be made then," sharply criticizing the timing.

He explained, "The Pusan National University Fairness Committee did not judge whether to cancel or maintain the admission but left it to the university headquarters, which then made the provisional decision to cancel the admission. The basis for this disposition was the applicant guidelines during the admission screening," adding, "In other words, the authenticity of the documents was referenced from the second trial ruling and could be overturned according to the Supreme Court ruling."

Referring to the investigation results of the Pusan National University Fairness Committee, he said, "According to my own speculation, (former Minister Cho’s daughter) had sufficient ability to pass but violated the applicant guidelines."

He continued, "It is truly unfortunate. I comfort former Minister Cho Kuk and his family," and added, "It’s not just a day or two; they have really suffered a lot. As a father raising children, I can only imagine how painful it must be. I also send words of comfort to former Minister Cho’s daughter, who is directly involved."

He further stated, "The final procedures are still pending. I comfort former Minister Cho Kuk, who is holding on to a thread of hope and continuing to make efforts," and added, "Many people are supporting him. A true friend is one who stands by you in difficult times. Stay strong."
