[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon has closely trailed Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, narrowing the gap in support between the two candidates to 7.6 percentage points. Although the difference remains outside the margin of error, the gap between the two candidates has shrunk from 12.7 percentage points to 7.6 percentage points. Governor Lee's support dropped by 3.2 percentage points (from 33.3% to 30.1%) compared to the previous survey (August 7-8), amid a series of setbacks including the controversy over the appointment of Hwang Kyo-ik as president of the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and the ‘tteokbokki YouTube filming’ incident during the Icheon fire. Meanwhile, former leader Lee's support rose by 1.9 percentage points to 22.5% during the same period.
