[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 20s aspiring to be a teacher was sentenced to probation after being indicted for requesting nude photos from a 12-year-old girl on social networking services (SNS) and threatening her when she refused.

The Jeju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Kim Yeon-kyung) on the 23rd sentenced Mr. A, in his 20s, who was charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, etc. (obscenity using communication media) and threats, to 1 year and 6 months in prison with 3 years of probation.

Additionally, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures, 100 hours of community service, and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for 10 years.

The court stated, "The defendant, who hopes to become a teacher, committed a sexual violence crime against the victim, which is very serious," but also explained the sentencing reasoning by considering "the fact that he has no prior criminal record and that the victim forgave the defendant and does not wish for punishment."

According to the investigation, Mr. A sent photos that caused sexual shame to the victim, whom he met through SNS in May of last year, or requested nude photos of the victim via messenger. When the victim refused, Mr. A also sent threatening messages.
