[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 23rd that it is operating a ‘Digital Learning Center’ for the digitally marginalized in anticipation of the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk ‘Dong-gu Moonlight Walk,’ which will be held both face-to-face and non-face-to-face starting next month on the 3rd, receiving high praise from residents.
Since the 17th, Dong-gu has been operating a ‘Visiting Digital Night Walk Promotion Team’ that directly visits local residents’ living spaces such as communication senior centers and village community centers to teach them how to enjoy the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk.
This promotion team operation was prepared with a focus on ‘digital inclusion’ so that all citizens can actively seek and enjoy the benefits of the smart digital world in the era of COVID-19 daily life, supporting everyone regardless of age or gender to enjoy the ‘Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk’ without exclusion.
The digital promotion helpers, volunteering as ‘Digital Ojirappers’ for generations having difficulty using smart devices, supported various activities to bridge the digital information usage gap, including accessing and using the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk website and YouTube channel.
Additionally, participants learned the moonlight dance choreographed to the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk ‘Moonlight Walk Song,’ providing vitality to daily life exhausted by COVID-19, and experienced a special time meeting Dong-gu’s hidden treasures through a cultural heritage map VR tour.
Moreover, there is an online Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk full of enjoyable content on the website and YouTube channel (Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk TV), including ‘Stay-at-Home Night School,’ where participants experience cultural heritage learned from textbooks through play, Dong-gu cultural heritage VR tours, stories of Gwangju Dong-gu cultural heritage, and moonlight dance choreography.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “With the prolonged COVID-19 situation, events using smart devices are increasing,” and added, “I hope that elderly people who have difficulty using smart devices can fully enjoy the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Walk non-face-to-face with the help of this promotion team.”
