[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the 19th, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business (KSMB) held a dialogue between Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential primary candidate, and small and medium-sized business owners at the KSMB headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul.
On this day, from the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, the primary candidate, along with lawmakers Woo Won-shik, Cho Jung-sik, Kim Byung-wook, Lee Dong-joo, and Park Sung-joon attended. From the SME sector, representatives from various industries and small business owners attended, including Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of KSMB; Bae Jo-ung, Chairman of the Korea Ready-Mixed Concrete Industry Cooperative Federation; Moon Chang-seop, Chairman of the Korea Footwear Industry Association; and Choi Hyun-kyu, Chairman of the Korea Knit Cooperative Federation.
At the meeting, they proposed urgent industry issues to be improved through a report on the polarization between large and small-medium enterprises. They also shared on-site difficulties divided into three themes: fairness and coexistence, jobs and growth, and industrial promotion, followed by a Q&A session with the candidate.
Industry issues discussed on-site included ▲support for fair transactions on online platforms ▲restructuring the quarantine system to minimize damage to affected industries from COVID-19 ▲supplementing the 52-hour workweek system ▲activating SME succession ▲and restarting the Kaesong Industrial Complex.
Chairman Kim Ki-moon stated, "Lee Jae-myung’s first pledge, transformative fairness growth, aligns with the new economic 'three no's' resolution proposed by the SME sector," adding, "We hope that the on-site opinions will be reflected in policy pledges so that SMEs can increase investment and jobs within a fair economic ecosystem alongside large corporations."
