KOSPI Operating Profit No.1 Samsung Electronics and SK Achieve Profit Turnaround... Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Faces Deficit Shock

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] The company with the highest operating profit on a consolidated basis in the first half of this year in the KOSPI market was Samsung Electronics, and the company with the highest growth rate was Emart.

According to the Korea Exchange on the 19th, Samsung Electronics' operating profit was 21.9496 trillion KRW, an increase of 50.41% compared to the first half of last year. Following that, SK Hynix recorded an operating profit of 4.0189 trillion KRW (growth rate 46.05%), and POSCO posted 3.753 trillion KRW (growth rate 329.92%).

SK, ranked 6th among the top 20 companies, achieved an operating profit of 2.7622 trillion KRW, successfully turning a profit. LG Display, Lotte Chemical, S-Oil, and SK Innovation also succeeded in turning a profit.

The company with the highest operating profit growth rate was Emart. Emart recorded an operating profit of 130.8 billion KRW in the first half of this year, with a growth rate reaching an astonishing 12,404.28%. Following Emart, Hanon Systems, SJM, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and Anam Electronics were also among the top companies in terms of growth rate.

The company with the lowest operating profit was Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering posted a deficit of 1.2203 trillion KRW in the first half of this year, turning to a loss. Samsung Heavy Industries and Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering also continued losses or turned to losses, ranking second and third among companies with the lowest operating profits.

The company with the highest decrease rate in operating profit was Shinpung Pharmaceutical. Shinpung Pharmaceutical achieved an operating profit of 456.5 billion KRW in the first half of last year, but only 700 million KRW in the first half of this year.
