[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) announced on the 18th that it has delivered sponsorship funds of 3 million won to 25 social economy enterprises this year.
This is part of the 'KDIC Hope New Deal' project, which KDIC has been implementing since last year to support the Korean New Deal policy.
Since June, KDIC received applications from 97 companies through its website and related organizations such as the Social Enterprise Promotion Agency. The number of beneficiary companies increased from 13 last year to 25. After two rounds of evaluation, companies with outstanding social value creation were finally selected.
Among the selected companies, 15 were located outside the metropolitan area. To revitalize the regional economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, companies based in local areas were mainly selected. Six companies were from the Gyeonggi region (including Incheon), the largest number, followed by four each from Seoul and Gyeongnam (including Busan and Ulsan).
KDIC plans to promote various cooperative projects to support sustainable growth, such as expanding sales channels through invitations to direct transaction markets.
A KDIC official emphasized, “We plan to actively pursue ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by exploring growth support measures for social economy enterprises that realize social value in various ways.”
