[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (President Yoon Jinbo) is making efforts together with Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City to provide local residents with a safe and convenient living environment.
Gwangju Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation announced that it has installed a ‘crime-prevention unmanned parcel locker’ at Sotae Station and began its operation on the 17th.
Installed as part of the ‘Dong-gu Owl’ project, this unmanned parcel locker utilizes the advantage of the subway operating 365 days a year, allowing residents to freely receive parcels contactlessly without being restricted by time.
In particular, despite the steady increase in parcel demand due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected to receive great response from women living alone or in two-person households, residents of multi-family houses, and dual-income families who find it difficult to use parcel services safely.
To use this parcel locker, designate the delivery location as ‘Sotae Station 1st Floor Unmanned Parcel Locker’ when using parcel services.
After the delivery company places the item in the unmanned parcel locker, the locker number and password are sent via text message to the user’s mobile phone, which can then be used to retrieve their item.
The usage fee for the unmanned parcel locker is free if the item is picked up within 48 hours from the time the delivery company stores the item; if exceeded, a fee of 1,000 KRW is charged every 24 hours.
Additionally, this parcel locker is equipped with an emergency bell and first aid kit linked to the 112 Comprehensive Situation Room and the 119 Safety Center, establishing a system that can protect citizens’ safety through two-way communication in case of emergencies.
President Yoon Jinbo said, “I hope that this crime-prevention unmanned parcel locker, in collaboration with Dong-gu Office, will make citizens’ daily lives safer and more convenient,” and added, “We will strive harder to provide various convenience services that offer practical help to citizens.”
