[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The extended Hyundai family gathered in one place to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the passing of the late Byeon Jung-seok, wife of the late Chung Ju-yung, Honorary Chairman of the Hyundai Group.

According to the business community on the 16th, the extended Hyundai family gathered at the old residence in Cheongun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the evening before the 14th anniversary of Mrs. Byeon to hold a memorial rite.

This was the first time the Hyundai family gathered since March 20, when they held the 20th anniversary memorial rite for Honorary Chairman Chung at the Cheongun-dong residence, marking a five-month interval.

Until now, the Hyundai family held separate memorial rites twice a year: in March for Honorary Chairman Chung and in August for Mrs. Byeon. However, last year, they combined the two rites in March and did not gather separately in August. This year, it is reported that they decided to hold the rites separately again.

Jung Eui-sun, eldest grandson and Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, arrived first at the Cheongun-dong residence around 3:50 p.m. with his wife, Jung Ji-sun, to welcome the extended Hyundai family.

At around 4:30 p.m., Chung Mong-joon, Chairman of the Asan Foundation, and his wife arrived. Following them, Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, Jung Ji-sun, Chairwoman of Hyundai Department Store Group, Chung Mong-won, Chairman of Halla Group, and Jung Il-sun, President of Hyundai BNG Steel, attended the memorial rite in staggered time slots.

Chung Mong-sun, Chairman of Sungwoo Group, and Chung Mong-il, Chairman of Hyundai Corporate Finance, also visited the Cheongun-dong residence around 6 p.m.

However, it is known that the late Chung Mong-gu, Honorary Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, who is elderly, did not attend this year as well, following last year’s absence.
