[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The names of 60 independence activists from Gumi, Gyeongbuk, have been revived on the streets.
On the 15th, to commemorate the 76th Liberation Day, Gumi City hung 60 street banner flags around the city hall area to promote 60 independence activists from the Gumi region.
Gumi City produced banner flags engraved with the names of independence activists to reflect on the historical significance of Liberation Day and to remember the spirit of the patriots who sacrificed for the country's independence.
All 60 names were displayed on flags along major city roads such as the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gumi City Hall, and Hyeonggok Intersection.
Jang Se-yong, mayor of Gumi, said, "Although we could not hold a separate Liberation Day event due to the spread of COVID-19, we prepared this banner event to honor the will of the patriotic martyrs who fought against Japanese colonial rule."
Gumi City is carrying out projects to increase interest in local history and culture through the discovery and documentation of local independence movement history. The city is also conducting the "Research Project on the Independence Movement History of the Gumi Region" to expand the discovery and awarding of independence patriots and to produce historical and cultural content.
