[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (PCC) is accelerating its investigation into former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to the legal community on the 15th, the PCC's Investigation Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Choi Seok-gyu) conducted a raid last month on the Ministry of Justice's Inspection Office and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Department to secure materials related to the allegations against former Prosecutor General Yoon. Yoon was reported to the PCC on charges of conducting a negligent investigation into the Optimus Asset Management fund fraud case while he was at the prosecution and obstructing the investigation into former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook's witness tampering case.
It is known that the PCC has been reviewing materials even on holidays and is expected to soon summon and investigate persons involved in the case. Former Prosecutor General Yoon may also be summoned. Since Yoon has previously stated that he would not avoid the PCC if summoned, this has drawn more attention. When he declared his candidacy for the presidential election, Yoon said, "If the PCC calls, I will go."
Meanwhile, the PCC is expected to soon conclude the investigation into the 'first case,' the allegation of special recruitment of dismissed teachers by Seoul Mayor Cho Hee-yeon. The investigation has reached its final stages. Mayor Cho was summoned and investigated by the PCC, denying the charges, and on the 11th, he submitted a written statement with the same content to the PCC.
