[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Hannam University is gaining popularity as a famous filming location in the film industry through word of mouth.

According to Hannam University on the 12th, a total of 12 films and dramas have been shot on campus since 2006, starting with the movie "That Summer" starring Lee Byung-hun and Su-ae.

In particular, the Missionary Village located on the Hannam University campus has become known as a popular filming spot frequently visited by the film industry.

The Missionary Village was the residence of American Presbyterian missionaries who founded Hannam University in the 1950s. Although its exterior is a hanok-style structure with tiled roofs, the interior is decorated in a Western style, making it a unique example of modern architecture. It is currently designated and managed as a cultural asset by Daejeon City.

Films shot at the Missionary Village include "That Summer" (2006), "The Last Princess" (2016), "Memoir of a Murderer" (2017), and "Honest Candidate" (2020), and the drama "Mother" (2018) was also filmed there.

Most recently, last month, the movie "Bogota" starring Song Joong-ki was filmed there, once again proving the Missionary Village’s status as a favored filming location in the film industry.

Besides the Missionary Village, many other locations on Hannam University’s campus have been used as filming sites.

The movie "Korea" (2012), which tells the true story of the first-ever unified North-South Korean table tennis team formed at the 1991 World Championships, was filmed at the university’s main stadium. The film "The Attorney" (2013), inspired by the story of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun, and "1987" (2017), which depicts the turbulent June in modern Korean history, were filmed at the Hannam University Student Union and the Gye Dae-don Memorial Hall, respectively.

Additionally, the outdoor performance scene in the movie "C'est Si Bon" (2015) was filmed on the lawn plaza of the College of Education at Hannam University. Last year, the film "Gyun," inspired by the humidifier disinfectant incident, completed filming at the 56th Anniversary Hall and the Central Library and is currently awaiting release.

This month, the movie "The Moon" (working title) is also being filmed at Hannam University’s Talmeiji Hall.

A Hannam University official stated, “As our university campus gains recognition in the film industry, filming requests continue steadily. We plan to actively cooperate with Daejeon City to ensure that more films can be produced using Hannam University as a location in the future.”
