Strengthening Monthly Subscription Movie Lineup Including Japanese Animation
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The online video service (OTT) Wave will exclusively provide the latest animated film by Makoto Shinkai, the director of the movie 'Your Name.'
Wave announced on the 11th that it will offer works by the Japanese animation master director Makoto Shinkai, as well as the latest releases 'Poupelle of Chimney Town' and 'We Made a Beautiful Bouquet.'
Wave has been running the 'Makoto Shinkai Animation Special Exhibition' since the day before. Subscribers can watch major works such as 'Your Name,' 'Weathering with You,' and newly added titles like 'The Place Promised in Our Early Days,' 'Voices of a Distant Star,' '5 Centimeters per Second,' 'Children Who Chase Lost Voices,' and 'The Garden of Words' with a monthly subscription.
In August, the latest theatrical animation release 'Poupelle of Chimney Town' will be added, followed by the movie 'We Made a Beautiful Bouquet' in September as exclusive monthly subscription films.
The animation 'Poupelle of Chimney Town,' which became a hot topic in Korea with singer Imujin performing the dubbed OST, is based on the picture book of the same name that sold over 690,000 copies after publication. Set in Chimney Town, where looking up at the sky is forbidden, it depicts the adventure and courage of Lubicchi, who waits for the stars, and Poupelle, a garbage man with a warm heart.
'Poupelle of Chimney Town' captivated not only children but also adults, proving its excellence by winning the Best Animation Award at the 44th Japan Academy Prize.
The movie 'We Made a Beautiful Bouquet' portrays the love story of university students Mugi and Kinu, who meet by chance after missing the last train and quickly fall in love. Nobuhiro Doi, director of the film 'Be With You,' directed this movie.
Oh Shinyoung, head of the Overseas Programming Business Team at Content Wave, said, "The viewership of animation content suitable for adults on Wave has been steadily high, so we are focusing on strengthening related content."
